Conducting research using the Cornell Medicaid Data Hub

About the Hub

  • The Cornell Medicaid Data Hub is shared, secure research infrastructure that houses federal Medicaid claims data and supporting analytic resources.

  • The Hub enables Cornell researchers to conduct reproducible, policy-relevant analyses without duplicating the substantial effort and expense required to acquire and manage T-MSIS Analytic Files (TAF) independently.

  • The Hub houses 100% TAF data for 2014-2023, including the Demographic and Eligibility (DE) file, Inpatient (IP) file, Other Services (OT) file, and Pharmacy (RX) file, as well as the supplemental Annual Provider (APR) and Annual Managed Care Plan (APL) files.

Eligibility

  • Cornell-affiliated faculty and trainees are eligible to apply to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to receive a Data Use Agreement (DUA) to reuse data housed in the Hub for research projects.

Requesting Access

  • If you are a Cornell investigator interested in working with these data, please complete this form as a first step.

  • Medicaid Policy Impact Initiative staff will walk through the process of obtaining access, which requires IRB approval, approval of a reuse DUA from CMS, and creation of a project-specific enclave within the Weill Cornell Medicine Data Core secure computing environment.

  • Note: This process can take 3-6 months from start to finish.
